Sygnum Bank strengthens leadership team with new Chief Compliance Officer

ZURICH, 24 June 2020 - Sygnum Bank has appointed Maria-Antonella Bino as Chief Compliance Officer. Maria-Antonella has over 20 years of experience in international financial crime investigations and compliance.

  • Sygnum Bank is building an innovative and agile compliance function for digital assets that enhances client experience and further strengthens its reputation for institutional-grade trust

  • Maria-Antonella’s unique financial compliance experience across both public and private spheres complements Sygnum’s diverse and interdisciplinary leadership team

Sygnum, the world’s first digital asset bank, has appointed Maria-Antonella Bino as Chief Compliance Officer. Maria-Antonella also joins the Executive Board of Sygnum Bank, where her experience enhances Sygnum’s governance and compliance capabilities.

Maria-Antonella was formerly the Swiss Federal Deputy Attorney General, and General Counsel and member of the Executive Board of one of Switzerland’s largest foreign banks. She has over 20 years of experience in compliance and investigating international financial crime, including money laundering, terrorism financing and organised crime. She successfully led several large compliance restructuring programs and end-to-end digital projects, driving change, effectiveness and cost-efficiency in the associated legal and compliance processes. Her unique experience spanning both public and private spheres makes her an ideal fit to support the growth of the business, and ensure Sygnum continues to define best practices in digital asset compliance.

Compliance is a critical function for any bank, but particularly for Sygnum as a digital asset specialist. This new technology and asset class has its own characteristics and market dynamics which require a distinct and rigorous approach to Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Financing Frameworks.

"Digital assets are already bringing fundamental change to the financial industry. Compliance needs to keep pace with these changes from both a regulatory and technological perspective, and also constantly look to streamline client experiences. I am excited to lead this important function and further strengthen Sygnum Bank’s reputation for institutional-grade trust."

Maria-Antonella, Chief Compliance Officer

"It was a conscious decision from the start for Sygnum to take the regulated path, even if it is a more challenging strategy. Our goal is to build a trusted, secure and efficient digital asset economy which will enable the potential of digital assets and distributed ledger technology to be fully realised. We believe Maria-Antonella will greatly support this mission here at Sygnum."

Manuel Krieger, Sygnum’s Co-Founder and CEO Switzerland
